Managing Your Human Resource

Managing Your Human Resource

Humans are the most important resources within an organisation as they are essential, as well as one of the most challenging resources for managers to handle as they are responsible for the tasks that will ease the development of any & every organisation.

As Human resource managers, one must make a thorough and well-thought-out selection of the team to ensure members are suitable and skilled for the task in question.

Firms profess that people are the source of their competitive advantage, whether they be technological experts, accommodating customer service experts, or visionary managers...At a time of unparalleled technological development, it is the human resources that paradoxically spell success or failure for all firms, and especially entrepreneurial ones’’ (Katz, Aldrich, Welbourne, & Williams, 2000)

We have identified a few components to manage your human resources more efficiently-

1. Knowing which skills you need -

 Figure 01

Knowing which individuals, you need for the organisation will facilitate resource planning. So, think carefully about what kind of tasks your organisation requires and which skills are mandatory for the completion of the task.

2. Lead & organize your team -

 Figure 02

Make sure everyone knows the common objectives, their responsibility in the organisation and their role. where every employee will have a duty allocated to them to get their part done successfully.

3. Encourage them to participate –

 Figure 03

Employees bring the knowledge and the know-how and it is highly beneficial when they get involved in an organisation planning and decision making, as this adds their expertise to the process and strengthens their commitment to the organisation.

4. The use a management tools -

 Figure 04

These tools can help you easily keep an eye on everyone's workload and progress. A tool will immediately show you if there is an imbalance during the process and let you put everything in its place rapidly.

5. Provide feedback -

 Figure 05

Interaction between you and your employees is fundamental. Whether they are succeeding or failing in completing a task, they need you to be there to give them advice, resolve issues if necessary and offer them support. Working together will certainly optimize the organisations performance.

We know that as new firms grow in sales or production rates, they must also grow in the number of people they employ. However, few studies have examined how these individuals are recruited, hired, trained, motivated, or rewarded for their contributions to the venture (for recent notable exceptions, see Katz & Welbourne, 2002).

Conclusion -

Every resource is important to bring an organisation to life and to ensure that it is successful. Managing these resources properly will give you complete control over the process and will facilitate & accelerate your progress. It is vital that Human Resources are managed efficiently and effectively as HR departments will learn & identify the strengths & weaknesses of their employees and use strategic solutions to foresee issues and could manager them by using the existing workforce to create opportunity and maintain organisational development.

‘‘Any plan for launching a new enterprise should include a road map for evolving the organizational structure and the HR system, which parallels the timeline for financial, technological and growth milestones’’ (Baron & Hannan, 2002, p. 30)

HR in the age of AI

As we venture deeper & deeper into the realm of artificial intelligence (AI), one must wonder: what does this means in terms of the future of human resources management. As we already know we define AI as “the ability of a machine to learn from experience, adjust to new inputs and perform human-like tasks” (Duan et al., 2019) and humanizing the creation & utilization of AI tools that:  (i) enhance human potential by building trust and minimize fear  (ii) can interact with humans in a natural, human-like manner and  (iii) can process information during these interactions in a manner similar to human cognitive processes (Fenwick and Molnar, 2022) would be the tall task that will define the further of HRM. Here are some of the identified functions HR departments will have to deal with while merging an AI tool with the HR practices in organisations - Functions - People management, Compliance & Culture Figure 01 - People-related functions encompass talent acq...
